FARMERS HOPING TO SHINE IN SPAIN

Manager Paul Kemp has labelled Farmers’ opportunity to head to Spain to play in the T10 European Cricket League as ‘absolutely fantastic’ as his side are set to play against all of Europe’s best clubs.

Kemp continued ‘It is the first time that any side from Jersey have been invited to play in the competition. We have a real depth of players going of all ages, so it is an amazing opportunity to play against the best players in Europe for us all.’

‘It gives these players the platform to showcase their talent. We will be playing against very good teams from England, Scotland, Holland, the list goes on!’

Coach Jonty Jenner echoed these thoughts by stating ‘With Jersey, we have great facilities but we tend to come up against the same faces in our top leagues so for the boys to come up against new, top quality players will be brilliant. The games will be shown live on YouTube and FreeSports so if you perform well, people in good places may be watching and taking note.’

Jenner, who is one of the island teams’ key players, is relishing his first experience coaching a senior mens team. ‘I have done a lot of coaching for junior sides but this is the first time taking a senior mens side so it is a great challenge for me. We have trained well, with a great six week block using the good facilities at De La Salle College. We have had all the preparation that we need bar a few high catches in sunny Spain, which we will do on Sunday when we arrive!’

On the teams chances Jenner concluded ‘We have spoken all the way through that we are hungry to win and stay on another week, which is a massive incentive itself as we would really be testing ourselves against Europe’s very best if we reach that stage!’

A huge good luck to Paul, Jonty and the team! Be sure to follow their progress at this huge competition next week!
