Local Football Preview

Jersey Wanderers are back in action as they look to react to the gap being closed at the top of Premiership 1 over the last few weeks.

There are also three big cup clashes, on another busy Saturday for local football.

Jersey Bulls kick off the weekend as they travel for a rare Friday night away game, playing mid-table Sevenoaks tonight. A win would see the Bulls continue to put the pressure on those above them, who will all be looking out for the result later. Kick off is at 7:45pm.

Tomorrow, Wanderers head up to meet Grouville at Les Quennevais. Grouville had started the season poorly, but have found their form and come into this weekend’s game off the back of a last-gasp win against St Ouen. Wanderers were beaten for the first time this season by St Paul’s last time out and will be eager to put that behind them, and get back on track in their title push. It should be an entertaining contest.

St Paul’s will look to continue their fine form as they play St Peter at Springfield Stadium tomorrow afternoon. The Saints backed up their win against Wanderers with a convincing victory over Madeira last week, and with their youngsters shining they will be raring to go again. St Peter know they need results, though, and will hope they can turn some of their recent positive performances into points.

In the other fixture in the division, St Brelade host St Ouen. St Brelade have had a positive season so far, and are building a good squad with results backing that up. St Ouen, like St Peter, desperately need points soon as they currently sit in the bottom two with Madeira. They were agonisingly on the losing side last time out against Grouville, and will hope fortune will be on their side this time round.

St Clement face Madeira in the JFA Cup tomorrow. The quarter final is at Les Quennevais, at an earlier 1:30pm kick off with many fancying St Clement to progress, but Madeira will be up for the cup and will look to cause a shock.

In arguably the game of the day, Rozel Rovers host Sporting Academics in the Tradesmen’s Trophy quarter final with both teams having fine seasons in Premiership 2. Kick off is at 1:30pm!

Also at 1:30pm, Grouville Reserves face Jersey Wanderers Reserves in a tasty Touzel Memorial Trophy semi final, down at FB Fields!

In Championship 1, St Peter Reserves host St Brelade Reserves in the only game in the division. It is a match up of the bottom two teams, and a win for St Peter would move them one point away from the visitors, with the hosts also having a game in hand on St Brelade.

In the O35s league, the front runners St Clement face bottom side Rozel Rovers at FB Fields (1:30pm), Jersey Wanderers host St Ouen, Portuguese Football Club of Jersey meet Grouville at Les Quennevais and Trinity face St Brelade, also at Les Quennevais!

Good luck to all teams, referees and volunteers involved in the action!
