Jake and Blake To Run 50km To Raise Dance World Cup Funds

Jake Mulholland and Blake Derbyshire are taking on a 50km running challenge around Jersey to help raise funds for Jersey’s dancers who will be representing Jersey in the Dance World Cup in July.

Dan caught up with Dan about the challenge!

Tell us what challenge you’re doing!

We will be running 50k around Jersey on Sunday 5th July. Our aim is to just finish it, but with a little target to do in under 5 hours.

How has the training gone for it?

We decided to set this challenge on the 8th June, which is short notice and gives us limited time to train. It’s difficult with family & work commitments to put as much training as we would like. We have been for 4 runs and plan to do 1 more before Sunday 5th. During our training our body’s have hurt with a few aches and pains, but that’s what we expected.

Where does it start and end, and what time?

We are looking to start at 10AM and finish by 3pm.

We plan to start at La Frigette and head to St Aubins, and make our way all around Jersey (Brelades, St Ouens, St John’s, St Martin, Grouville, Clements, back to La Frigette

Why are you doing it – what are you raising money for?

We wanted to set ourselves a physically demanding challenge for the dancers who will be representing Jersey at the Dance World Cup in Dublin in July.

How good a job do the guys do at the dance school and how important is the opportunity for the youngsters?

The dancers have worked incredibly hard to earn their place at the Dance World Cup Finals. Qualifying is a huge achievement in itself, requiring months (some years) of dedication, commitment and countless hours of training. They have balanced school and other commitments alongside their rehearsals, showing real determination and resilience.

The dance school does an amazing job of supporting and developing the dancers, creating opportunities for them to grow in confidence, make friendships and achieve things they never thought possible. Reaching the Dance World Cup Finals is a testament to the hard work of both the dancers and their teachers.

The dancers and their families have already put in a huge effort to help fund the trip, organising cake sales, car boot sales and car washes. Their commitment and determination to get to Dublin has been inspiring to see and makes us even more determined to support them.

For us, it makes the challenge even more worthwhile knowing what this opportunity means to the children. They will be representing Jersey on a world stage, performing alongside some of the best young dancers from across the globe and creating memories that will stay with them for life.

It is particularly special for Jake, whose daughter is Team Jersey’s mascot. At just six years old, she is the youngest member of the team and is incredibly excited about travelling to Dublin and being part of such a prestigious event.
