Here is a question, if you can’t play your sport due to Covid-19 restrictions, but still want to stay fit what do you do?
Most people would probably answer the question by saying ‘go to the gym’ or ‘go on runs’.
Not Jersey Reds Athletic.
Athletic have decided to temporarily switch sport from rugby to football to keep in positive shape, both physically and mentally!
They have affiliated to the Jersey FA where they plan to play a series of friendlies to keep their players in good shape in preparation for the new rugby season, as and when that could be!
In a statement on the clubs’ Facebook page Myles stated ‘Mental and physical well-being are hugely important. Keeping that competitive edge whilst staying active and fit is what the lads look forward to and of course the social that comes with it. We don’t have a start date yet for rugby but seems it still could be a while off.’
In previous weeks Athletic have had a stab at a few cricket games, playing both Jersey Bulls and Jersey Hockey, winning against the footballers but losing out to the islands hockey stars.
There has already been interest in getting games organised through a number of local football sides who are keen to get their own fitness levels to where they need to be ready for the new Jersey Combination season.
A great idea by Athletic. All at Sportscast Jersey wish them all the best of luck in their games!
