The Weekend For Top Of The Table Treats

It is set to be yet another busy weekend of football in Jersey with the top two meeting in the top two men’s leagues on Saturday afternoon.

Andy Sheppard’s St Paul’s will look to take a big step to the Premiership Title when they host reigning champions Jersey Wanderers. The home side returned to action for the first time this calendar year last weekend with a comfortable win against St Clement and they will be hungry for another three points against second placed Wanderers who have won three out of three since the restart themselves and will be determined to stop Paul’s in their tracks. Sportscast Jersey’s Max Young will be there to cover what is a mouth-watering match-up on paper.

Elsewhere in the top division David Fitton’s Grouville are in with a chance of finishing the day level on points with Pauls and Wanderers at the top of the table should they come away from St Peter with three points and the top of the table clash finishes as a draw. Bolstered with the recent additions of Lorne Bickley, Arthur Illingworth and Charlie Payne Grouville are shaping into being an impressive side. St Peter have returned in fine form too, beating St Ouen and Rozel Rovers over the last two weeks, and with the likes of Jersey Bulls players Sol Solomon and Luke Campbell, Elliot Powell is forming a strong team himself. Dan Andrade will be there to cover the action.

St Clement will look to get back to winning ways after a poor restart but St Lawrence will make it hard for them as they battle in a relegation fight with neighbours Rozel Rovers. Rozel visit St Brelade, who come into it full of confidence after a win against St Lawrence last time out.

In the Jersey Women’s League top of the table Rozel Rovers play host to reigning champions St Lawrence who will look to make a statement by going away with all three points and be the first team to stop the impressive ‘Seagalls’. A win for Rozel will further strengthen their high chances of becoming champions come the end of the season. In the leagues other fixture Jersey Wanderers play host to Grouville with the hosts looking to keep the pressure on Rovers and stay above St Lawrence in what is becoming a really strong and competitive league.

In the Championship Tim Aubert’s St Ouen’s Reserves visit St Peter in what is another top of the table clash and a must win for the visitors should they want to retain their title having played two more games more than the home side and First Tower. Tower visit St Lawrence as they look to push on to win the league title as the hosts look for their first points of the season.

Rozel Rovers Reserves host Jersey Wanderers Reserves at La Couvent in a mid-table battle whilst St Clement Reserves and St Brelade Reserves will look to keep pace with the top of the table as they face each other in St Clement.

The race for the title is heating up in Division One with five teams arguably in for a shout to lift the trophy come the end of the season.

It is top vs bottom as Sports Club Of Jersey visit St John Reserves looking for another three points. With second placed Portuguese United not in action, Dragoes de Jersey will look to leapfrog them with victory against St Brelade C who will hope to cause an upset and guide themselves away from the bottom.

St Paul’s Reserves will be going into their game against Grouville C full of confidence after Wednesday night’s cup victory against Jersey Wanderers C. Sporting Academics Reserves will be keen to get a vital three points as they visit a St Clement C side who sit mid-table.

Over 35’s league leaders St Paul’s will look to beat St Ouen’s at Les Quennevais to further their grip on top spot. Elsewhere St Martin’s play host as they welcome St John in what is a massive clash with the sides level rock bottom of the league. Beeches, the other side with only three points, will look to beat St Lawrence to gain some breathing space with the bottom spot.

Good luck to all players, coaches and officials in action. Play well and enjoy!
