JERSEY HOCKEY LADIES ON A HIGH!

It was a successful Saturday for Jersey Hockey last weekend as 5 out of the 6 sides did enough to maintain their inter-insular bragging rights after a dominating day against Guernsey.

One of the winning sides was Jersey Hockey Women, who won 5-1 on the day! Dan caught up with one of their stars, Harley Cadoret, about the day and how much the win means for the players.

The full interview is below!

How determined were the team to win the game on Saturday?

I feel the team were extremely determined to win the inter insular, we had been training hard both on and off the pitch and after drawing 1-1 back in November last year with Guernsey, this increased our determination even more to go out on Saturday and take the win.

How special are the games against Guernsey? How much do you love them!

Playing in the inter insular against Guernsey is always special, especially when it’s here in Jersey. It’s something everyone works towards all season and looks forward to being a part of. Being able to represent your island is something so rewarding and special as they mean so much to everyone. Everyone loves the inter insular, it brings the islands together, and a its different team to play against and of course you want to win against Guernsey.

What was the feeling to play in front of a home crowd like?

Playing in front of a home crowd did increase the nerves a little, however it’s something so surreal. You gain a buzz from playing in front of a home crowd knowing they have all come down to support you and having the crowd there definitely increases your determination to play well and to take the win. The home crowd on Saturday were incredible and their support definitely helped us play well and take the win in style.

Describe the game! How much did you enjoy it?

The game was insane, there was definitely pre-match nerves experienced in the changing room and the warmup, however scoring the early goal put us on the front foot and helped us settle into the game well. As the goals kept coming, as a team we became more confident each time and the game became so enjoyable and something none of us will forget. As a team we train so much together, it’s become more of a family, and the enjoyment we experienced on the day was huge.

Got the win, what was the feeling like after the match?

Winning the game on Saturday was incredible, the feeling as we scored the last short corner of the game, was something I’ll never forget. The feeling after the game remained the same throughout the rest of the afternoon and into the evening, everyone was buzzing, with the biggest smiles on our faces. As a team we had worked so hard for this, having strength and conditioning or spinning on a Monday at Strive Academy, training on a Wednesday evening and matches either Friday or Saturday, the feeling after the game felt so rewarding that all our hard work had paid off.

What’s next for the ladies side? Any competitive games coming up?

In terms of what’s next for the ladies’ team, we have a few league games coming up for the next few weekends but that’s about it. The inter insular sort of marks the end of the season for hockey, so we will be taking a break for a few weeks and getting back playing again in late April for the summer fun leagues and then pre-season starts again in August ready for next season.
