In the first of our interviews with islanders doing marathons over the next few weeks, Sam Dewhurst answered some questions put to him by Dan!
What marathon are you running, and for what charity?
I am running Paris Marathon 2026 and I am running for Movember.
Why is the charity so important for you?
The charity work is all about improving men’s health – specifically tackling prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. Between 5,700-6000 suicides occur every year and 75% are men. Even at the lowest estimate that’s approximately 12 men a day.
How excited are you for the marathon itself?
Incredibly excited. It’s my 4th marathon and the one I have trained the most seriously for so I am looking forward to the day.
How have you enjoyed the training?
I’ve loved the training. Now I’m not playing as much football and cricket, having structure around training is something I really enjoy.
What are your main goals both in terms of fundraising and the day itself?
For my fundraising, I’d love to raise as much money as possible, and for the day itself, I’d love to get as close to 3:40 as possible, and to enjoy the day and see the sights around Paris!
